Dot The I Trailer Gael Garcia Bernal (via eliebellie)

dot the i (2003) dir matthew parkhill

yes, i’m going to be a teeny-bopper and say any movie with gael garcia bernal and tom hardy can’t be bad. and i am right, this movie wasn’t bad (not only due to the handsome actors). plot is well thought out, there’s something cheesy about it, i can’t really put my finger on it. it takes place in london, where the audience is introduced to gael’s character Kit hanging out with his friends. kit sees a girl, a spanish girl from milano by the name of Carmen (flamenco dancer, somewhat stereotypical, but hey, she does a fine job and has an INTENSE look on her face when she performs the flamenco dance). there’s some details we know about carmen, basically, she’s got PROBLEMS (and she wears them on her face when performing the flamenco dance, which i assume, you would have to do if you had such issues). she’s got baggage. she’s pretty hot, and she’s about to get married to her brit fiance, Barnaby. ta-da: love triangle begins. i was amazed at how Kit keeps semi-calm though she can’t make up her mind. how do guys do that? the movie goes from cheesy love story to thriller/suspense/action. certain scenes are quite passionate. certain scenes are unrealistic and cheesy (but shit, how many movies aren’t guilty of that) i think the plot and narrative wins in comparison to the art direction (but i’m not hatin’, i noticed some things, they did well with color and styling, for instance, carmen wears green and red together, some of the lighting in the apartments is moody and appropriate). add to ‘must rent’ list if you like the sound of that so far. goes somewhere in between lucky number slevin and… volver?
also, soundtrack was amusing, lots of cultural mixing. and if you’re a fan of gael garcia bernal: his dorky smile happens several times in this movie. that brightened my day.
